It’s Good Friday today and since it was snowing, and my client is from Missoula, he decided to fish another day when the hatch should be better. So I rested my shoulders and took care of a few things.
Yesterday on the Bitterroot there were two young boys probably 10 or 11 walking the bank with 2 BB guns and a fishing pole. They told my guests and I they were hunting and It brought me back 30 some years earlier when I was a kid. I loved sneaking around the outdoors with my air rifle terrorizing gophers, mice, sparrows, blackbirds, and any other moving target. I learned how to shoot on these adventures and I feel like every kid should have the freedom of exploring the outdoors and not worrying about solving the world’s problems. In the world of I-phones, PS3, texting, mass video communication garbage, reality TV, and other bullshit, I wanted to salute these kids and their parents for letting them be outside where kids need to connect!
We also had a dog follow us for a mile or so. He almost drowned in a couple of log jams so I stopped and put him in my drift boat. He had a collar with a phone number, I called it and a happy owner met us about an hour later and retrieved his lost dog, some technology has a plus at times.
The fishing was good, I had competent anglers and we caught 30 or so trout. We ended the day with my clients doubling up on 18 inch chromy rainbows right at the take out. A fine day with some nostalgia intermixed! I feel fortunate to have the option of being part of making memories for my guests and my self after days like these.
I am blessed with a healthy, awesome family, an appreciative, honest boss, and loyal friends.
Happy Easter everyone!
