My daughter Logan with a 15 lb Honker she dropped!

My family and I have been doing some bird hunting this fall and man am I glad I taught my son how to clean birds.  Now on these cold days with a half dozen frozen geese, my boy tackles them like a pro.  40 years ago my dad handed me a speckled belly goose that he had shot and said  “skin this bird”.  Well I figured it out and he no longer had to clean his birds.  I actually prefer to pluck ducks and geese, they hold their moisture much better and roast awesome!

This season was a little tougher, I had a pretty bad accident and it put a huge dent in our hunting.  I’m doing well now and I am looking forward to rowing my raft and drift boat here in a month or so.  The few times we went hunting lately we got stuck in real wet conditions.  Every time we got home we would strip our rifles or shotguns down and clean them thoroughly.  There’s some real satisfaction to getting our firearms stripped down, oiled, and reassembled.  I also had to call a client/friend to figure out how to put my old browning sweet 16 guage back together.  He’s a gunsmith and talked me through it.

Our dogs on the other hand have needed some serious grooming.  We stumbled upon a product called Cowboy Magic and it rocks.  We have long haired pointing dogs, a wire-haired griff, and a spinoni.  If you remember to put some of this on them, the burrs don’t seem to stick so bad.  I have delegated my daughter and son to pick burrs so they are also firm believers in this stuff.

My wife smacked a nice rooster with what she calls her duck rifle, just to bug me.

I’m looking forward to 2015, 2014 was a blast and then ended kind of rough.   I’m blessed by God, my family, and a bunch of awesome friends, and I was taken care of.  I’m looking forward to seeing you guys making casts to rising trout here shortly.

2015 is going to be the Best!!!!!!!!!!!
